If you're currently getting ready to get back into your workout program, it's important that you take a good look at the nutrition you're taking in to make sure it's optimal so you can see good results from your training.
If you're nutrition isn't there, you're not only going to be able to exercise as effectively, but you're also not going to recover as well either - which are both definitely going to impact your results.
Here are three great meal choices to have before or after you perform a workout.
Cold Pasta Salad
For those of you who have to pack their food for the day and don't have any place to warm-up a meal before the workout, cold pasta salad is a perfect fit for the bill.
Simply cook up a cup or two of pasta (depending on your own individual carbohydrate needs), and then add in some lean protein along with some Italian salad dressing.
Toss in a few veggies if you wish for flavor, and you're all ready to go.
Cottage Cheese and Cereal
Next up on the list of good exercise foods is a bowl of cottage cheese along with some cereal. While you might be tempted to go with a very high fiber cereal, this is not always the best option.
The problem with too much fiber is that it can slow down the digestion process, which is not what you want around your workout.
Secondly, having too much fiber in the body around a workout could make for a very uncomfortable situation, if you catch my drift.
Secondly, instead of choosing fruit to toss in the cottage cheese, cereal is a better choice as it will contain more starch (a complex form of glucose), rather than fructose, which will not help during the
workout.
Trail Mix
Finally, the last option to have around your workout is trail mix. Note though that you should avoid adding too many nuts to the trail mix as this will increase the fat content of it, which is something you don't want.
Ideally you want to only be consuming carbs and protein around the workout, as fat serves no real purpose.
Instead, create your trail mix from pretzels, crackers, dried fruit, and shredded cereal.
Also note that this will not contain all that much protein, so you'll also likely want to eat this with an additional protein source.
So, be sure you keep your pre and post workout nutrition in mind. If you aren't optimizing this, you aren't optimizing the results you see, be it fat loss or muscle building.
